2^nd Quarter Project

Don’t know much about elements?

As we study Chapters 4-7, we will be looking into the various properties and uses of the elements found in the periodic table. This project will allow you to investigate a specific element and report your findings to the class.

Requirements:

• You must include all the information outlined in the check list below.
• You must have some kind of visual (poster, model, video, etc.)
• You must be ready to present your element to the class on Monday, December 19, 2011.

Grading- You will be graded on the following:

• required information
• understanding
• creativity in visual component
• presentation to the class

Information to include:

• Name of element
• Element’s symbol
• Atomic mass and atomic number 
• Number of valence electrons
• Abundance in the earth’s crust (%)
• When was your element discovered?
• Where? By whom? How?
• Where does your element occur in nature?
• What are some physical properties of your element?(color, odor, toxicity, natural physical state)
• What uses does your element have? (Try to find 3.)
• Why did you pick this element?
• A fun fact about your element.
• Where did you get your information?
